Actions Steps for This Tutorial:

  1. Watch Tutorial Video #4 on Installing wordpress via your Hostgator Cpanel.
  2. Locate your Hostgator username and password then navigate to your Cpanel URL.
  3. Click the “Quick Install” link for WordPress
  4. Complete required information to install wordpress on your hosting account

By now your domain name has “propagated” to your website hosting account at Host Gator. In today’s tutorial what we’re going to do is install WordPress (which is the blogging software we’re going to be using) on our new hosting account.

Not that long ago you needed to know how to setup a database, work with some PHP and a bunch of other techie stuff to setup wordpress. Today, thanks to HostGator’s quick installation scripts and software we can setup WordPress in under 10 minutes.

So Let’s get started.

You’re going to need the email that you received from HostGator.com when you first signed up for you Host Gator baby or hatchling account. This email has your username and password in it.

Step 1: Go to your domain name in your web browser.

You should be greeted with a Host Gator Getting Started landing page that looks like the image below.

You’ll want to click on the icon that says Cpanel Login. This will bring you to a new screen where you will need the username and password from your Host Gator sign-up welcome email. Inside that email (which you also used in tutorial 3 for your name servers) is your username and password.

Using the username and password login to Cpanel.

Login to Cpanel

Step 2: Click the QuickInstall WordPress Button

Now that you’re inside Cpanel it should look something like the image below. You need to find the QuickInstall WordPress link in the left hand side bar. Click the link and this will open to a new screen where you will be able to install wordpress with one click and entering just a few details.

Step 3: Install WordPress

Ok, now that you’re on the new screen click the continue button. This will bring up a series of new fields you need to fill out.

Enter your new blogs name, an email, first and last name. While this information can be changed later, try to enter the right information the first time around.

Once you’ve entered the details required click the Install button and that’s it. It will take less then a minute for the Quick Install script to setup your new WordPress database and provide you with a username and password.

NOTE: Be sure to copy your username and password that is provided to you since you’ll need that to login for the first time

That’s it! You’ve successfully installed wordpress on your new blog.

To see what your new blog looks like visit your domain name (for my example site that is http://www.runnersgearguide.com/) and you’ll see the basic structure of your new blog.

To access the admin panel for your blog add a /wp-admin to the end of your domain in your browser. So in my example that would look like: http://www.runnersgearguide.com/wp-admin

If you need to access your Cpanel again you simply add a /cpanel to the end of your domain name in your browser. So in my example that would look like: http://www.runnersgearguide.com/cpanel

I suggest now watching the Video tutorial below where I’ll walk you through the same steps and also login to WordPress for the first time.
